Starting in December every year, monuments and sites in Ottawa come to life through a wonderful display of colours set against the longest nights of winter. We had over 90 cm of snow in Ottawa in December 2022, which kept us busy shoveling. When the weather got milder near the end of the month, it was enticing for both locals and visitors to go for a stroll downtown to enjoy the lights.
In addition to the string of lit buildings and parks in downtown, there is a short multimedia show projected on the main Parliament building which is known as the Centre Block. There are always families and groups of people watching the show on Parliament Hill, even under the rain, like we did that night. Major restoration and modernization work is taking place there now, which explains the two large cranes seen projecting from behind the building.
We know not that everybody envies our weather. Below is a one-minute video which will prove, we hope, that winter in Ottawa is far from being a dreary affair.
