We roamed around Madrid for four days this March. The city was enjoying an unusually warm Spring season, and the streets were alive with people going about their business, groups of kids walking to and from school, families and friends sitting together at outdoor cafes and, of course, many tourists like us.
Madrid is graced with majestic architecture, elegant streets, expansive parks, large public squares, imposing monuments, and beautiful fountains. The centre of Madrid has several lively pedestrianized areas, and it is incredibly clean. In many key downtown locations, we came across street musicians. We believe that their presence adds significant charm to the city.
We stopped to listen to many of them and were taken by their talent and versatility. There were solo performers and groups alike. We soon found ourselves taking photos and short videos of these performances and, naturally, leaving a donation to show our appreciation.
In many places, small crowds gathered around the musicians. No doubt, some of the scores and popular songs these musicians played had been chosen to appeal to passers-by and encourage donations.
Like other capital cities, Madrid is impressive, but it stands out for us because of its many street musicians. We put together some short clips of their music and images of well-known Madrid sites for your enjoyment.
